3Charity Initiatives

Prisoners are encouraged and supported to participate in charity fund raising. Care will be taken to ensure the relevant charity is comfortable with prisoner involvement.

Some initiatives which have been undertaken in raising money for charity have been holding fundraising events at the prison for local charity hospices and a number of 'Jail and Bail' events.

Community Initiatives
HMP Altcourse is committed to having close involvement with community and voluntary organisations. Links have been already established with social volunteers who assist with religious activities and agencies such as Samaritans and Alcoholics Anonymous who are regular contributors to the prisons policies and rehabilitation of prisoners.

A drop-in centre is also available for prisoners to discuss any drug problems that they may have.

Sefton and Liverpool Compact
Working with other local businesses to support local schools in interview techniques, mentoring, working experience and industry days.

HMP Altcourse Achievements Awards
(Investors in People)

HMP Altcourse was awarded this standard on 18th August 1999 and has been retained annually since then. To achieve 'Investors in People' there is a regular review of recruitment, training and development needs.
